Ten years ago, I took the first steps in my journey towards the Catholic Church. Five years ago this coming Easter, I was confirmed into it as a Catholic. It has been an amazing journey so far, during which I have discovered so much about the history of the Church and the depths of faith. But few aspects of my journey into the Church have touched me like the discovery of the sacraments. The moment I received the Holy Eucharist for the first time, I discovered a new intimacy with God that was irresistible – an experience repeated in all of the sacraments.

Baptism, Confirmation, Confession and Reconciliation, The Holy Eucharist, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick. The Sacraments are outward and physical manifestations of God’s grace. From a young age, I knew that following Christ was a spiritual journey. With the sacraments, I now know that it is also a physical journey.

When I hear the priest say, “Take and eat, this is my body” in mass, or “Through the ministry of the Church, I grant you pardon and absolution for your sin in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen,” after confession, I know that through a human voice, God is speaking to me about His love for me, His desire to forgive me, and His desire to draw me closer to Him.

“The Sacraments” will be a documentary style film about the seven sacraments from the perspective of someone who has come into the church and discovered them as an adult. In many conversations with people who have grown up Catholic, I have learned that this is a unique perspective and one that has encouraged their faith. I hope you will join me on this journey of discovering the beauty of the sacraments. They have had a powerful impact on my life and I want to share that strength and beauty with you.
